How to Compress Images Online

Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image, or drag it into the upload area. FileFit opens the compression settings and shows your original file size. Supported images are processed in your browser first. If server fallback is available, FileFit asks for your confirmation before uploading.

Choose a compression style for your image, or select Custom Size to work toward a file-size limit. The available settings depend on the image format. PNG uses lossless compression, while JPG and WebP can trade some visual detail for a smaller file. A custom size may require smaller dimensions, and reaching every target is not guaranteed.

Click Compress Image, review the original and final sizes, then download your result. FileFit keeps the original when a new candidate is not smaller. You can compress another image afterward, or use Resize Image when you need specific pixel dimensions.

Good to know

Helpful notes

  • Compression results depend on the original image and its existing encoding.
  • Resize Image changes pixel dimensions; standard compression modes focus on file size while keeping dimensions.
  • For a specific upload-size limit, choose Custom Size here or use Target KB for a dedicated target workflow. A target may be unreachable.
  • PNG uses lossless browser optimization; JPEG-style quality controls do not apply.
  • FileFit retains the original file whenever an optimized candidate is not smaller.
  • Supported images are processed locally first in your browser.

Compress Image Help

Compress Image FAQs

Which compression style should I choose?

Start with Smart for a balance of size and quality. Smaller Size tries stronger compression, Best Quality keeps more detail, and Custom Size works toward a limit you enter. Results depend on the image.

Will compression always make my image smaller?

No. Size depends on image detail, format, existing compression and chosen quality. If FileFit cannot produce a smaller valid result, it keeps the original file instead.

Which image formats are supported?

Compress Image supports JPG, PNG, and WebP images.

Why are PNG controls different?

Browser PNG encoding does not use JPEG-style quality settings. FileFit uses the available PNG optimization path instead.

Will compression change image dimensions?

Smart, Smaller Size and Best Quality preserve the original dimensions. Custom Size may reduce dimensions when needed to reach your target; review the reported dimensions before downloading.

Is my image uploaded?

Supported images are processed locally first. Any available temporary server path is explained and requires confirmation before upload.
